by Matt Stuart
On October 1st 2017, Stephen Paddock used 23 guns to fire more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition into a crown of 22,000 concert-goers from a room on the 32nd floor of Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay hotel and then took his own life. The attack was made at a distance of approximately 500 meters, resulted in 58 deaths and 546 injuries making it the deadliest mass shooting committed by a single person in US history. Paddock (64) had no criminal history and as of late-2017 investigators have still been unable to find any motive behind the attack.
Matt Stuart arrived in Las Vegas the day after the incident and photographed the unusually quiet and somber city.
